Painting Oregon Prep

It's All in the Prep

The preparation work before painting is 90% of the job. Without the proper amount of preparation the final coat of paint will fail sooner than its given manufacturer's expectation.

Below we have listed just some of the ways that Painting Oregon prepares the surfaces we paint based on conditions present upon initial inspection by our trained staff:
  1. A complete power wash of all areas prior to painting.
  2. If mold and/or mildew is present on the surface, Painting Oregon will use a mildewcide wash to sterilize it.
  3. Drop cloths will be placed on the ground at any place work is being done to prevent chip and drips.
  4. On houses built before 1978 Painting Oregon will wet-scrape and wet-sand any peeling or failing paint.
  5. On houses built before 1978, 6 Mil plastic will be laid below working area and will extend 10 feet or more from walls where prep work is being done.
  6. In severe peeling cases, Painting Oregon uses Dumond® Smart Strip™ by PeelAway® to spot strip peeling paint and then primer with XIM® Peel Bond™ prior to painting.
  7. Primer will be applied to any bare wood surfaces.
  8. Remove old caulking and replace with a 60 year durable caulking.
  9. Nails will be re-set and caulked prior to primer coat.
  10. Decks, concrete, and other no-paint structures and surfaces will be completely covered before painting begins.
  11. A progress report daily to keep you informed of work schedule and other issues.
  12. Paint will be back rolled on siding and rough cut wood to assure proper adhesion.
  13. Before painting begins, windows are taped off and plants/shrubs are covered with protective plastic covering.
  14. Failed window glazing will be removed and re-glazed prior to priming.
  15. Use galvanized metal primer on rain gutters and downspouts.
  16. Daily cleanup of all paint and paint materials.
  17. A responsible, respectful, and safety-conscious paint crew.
  18. An inspection by you and a Painting Oregon crew leader at completion to assure that you are satisfied 100% with the work.
